Outcome
Percentage

Indicator

% of trained households demonstrating improved knowledge of safer shelter construction and maintenance practices

Definition & calculation

Numerator: Number of surveyed households that correctly identify the agreed safe construction/maintenance practices after receiving technical support or training

Denominator: Total number of surveyed households that received technical support or training

Respondents are scored against a defined set of key safe-construction practices; those meeting the knowledge threshold are divided by all trained respondents.

Formula: (Numerator ÷ Denominator) × 100

Means of verification

KAP survey; training pre/post tests; post-distribution monitoring

Interpretation

Direction: Higher is better

Typical reporting frequency: Baseline, midline and endline (or annual)

Guidance & common pitfalls

Where feasible use a pre/post design to attribute change; ensure the practice checklist reflects locally relevant hazards (seismic, flood, wind). Measures demonstrated knowledge, not self-reported confidence.

This library is a curated reference to adapt, aligned generically with recognised humanitarian frameworks (Sphere, cluster registries, IASC, CHS and others). It is not an official indicator registry — always use the exact indicator definitions your donor or cluster requires.
