Definition & calculation
Calculate the standard reduced Coping Strategies Index from the frequency and severity weighting of the five consumption-based coping behaviours over the past 7 days, averaged across surveyed recipient households.
Means of verification
Household survey, post-distribution monitoring, baseline/endline comparison
Interpretation
Direction: Lower is better
Typical reporting frequency: Baseline, midline and endline (or annual)
Guidance & common pitfalls
A lower score indicates fewer/less severe negative coping; compare against baseline and a non-recipient reference where feasible, as rCSI is sensitive to seasonality and shocks. Reported as an average score — no numerator/denominator.
This library is a curated reference to adapt, aligned generically with recognised humanitarian frameworks (Sphere, cluster registries, IASC, CHS and others). It is not an official indicator registry — always use the exact indicator definitions your donor or cluster requires.
