Indicator

% of supported learning spaces meeting minimum safety, protection and quality standards

Definition & calculation

Numerator: Number of assessed supported learning spaces meeting the defined pass threshold on a minimum-standards checklist (safe structure, sex-segregated WASH, safe access, codes of conduct, teacher-learner ratio)

Denominator: Total number of supported learning spaces assessed during the reporting period

Assess each supported learning space against a standardized checklist and calculate the percentage meeting or exceeding the defined pass threshold.

Formula: (Numerator ÷ Denominator) × 100

Means of verification

Learning space quality/safety observation checklist, monitoring visit reports

Interpretation

Direction: Higher is better

Typical reporting frequency: Baseline, midline and endline (or annual)

Guidance & common pitfalls

Quality indicator complementing access counts. Publish the checklist and threshold so results are comparable over time, and include protection elements such as functioning safe referral pathways and codes of conduct.

This library is a curated reference to adapt, aligned generically with recognised humanitarian frameworks (Sphere, cluster registries, IASC, CHS and others). It is not an official indicator registry — always use the exact indicator definitions your donor or cluster requires.
