Definition & calculation
Count the number of distinct food groups (out of 12) consumed by the household over the recall period and report the sample mean.
Means of verification
Household food security survey (HDDS module)
Interpretation
Typical reporting frequency: Baseline, midline and endline (or annual)
Guidance & common pitfalls
HDDS is a household economic-access proxy, not an individual nutrition measure; keep the recall period (typically 24 hours) and food-group list consistent across rounds for comparability. Aligned with FAO/Food Security Cluster dietary-diversity guidance.
This library is a curated reference to adapt, aligned generically with recognised humanitarian frameworks (Sphere, cluster registries, IASC, CHS and others). It is not an official indicator registry — always use the exact indicator definitions your donor or cluster requires.
