Indicator

Average daily attendance rate of learners enrolled in supported learning environments

Definition & calculation

Numerator: Total learner-days present recorded across supported learning spaces during the reference period

Denominator: Total possible learner-days (enrolled learners multiplied by scheduled days of instruction) during the reference period

Sum learner-days present over the reference period and divide by total possible learner-days (enrolment multiplied by scheduled instructional days), then multiply by 100.

Formula: (Numerator ÷ Denominator) × 100

Means of verification

Daily attendance registers, spot-check monitoring visits

Interpretation

Direction: Higher is better

Typical reporting frequency: Baseline, midline and endline (or annual)

Guidance & common pitfalls

Attendance shows whether enrolment translates into actual participation. Validate registers with unannounced spot checks, and disaggregate by sex to surface gendered barriers to regular attendance.

This library is a curated reference to adapt, aligned generically with recognised humanitarian frameworks (Sphere, cluster registries, IASC, CHS and others). It is not an official indicator registry — always use the exact indicator definitions your donor or cluster requires.
