Numerator: Number of women of reproductive age (15-49) in the defined reference group currently using a modern contraceptive method
Denominator: Total number of women of reproductive age (15-49) in the same reference group surveyed
From survey data, divide women reporting current use of a modern method by all women of reproductive age in the defined reference population.
Formula: (Numerator ÷ Denominator) × 100

Guidance & common pitfalls
Specify the reference population (all women vs. married/in-union vs. sexually active), as it strongly affects the value. Service-register 'new acceptors' is an activity proxy, not the prevalence rate.
