Definition & calculation

Numerator: Number of children with SAM discharged as cured (met the programme recovery/discharge criteria) during the reporting period

Denominator: Total number of children with SAM who exited the programme during the reporting period (cured + died + defaulted + non-recovered)

Divide the number of children discharged as cured by the total number of exits (cured, died, defaulted, non-recovered) in the same period, expressed as a percentage.

Formula: (Numerator ÷ Denominator) × 100

Guidance & common pitfalls

Report as part of the standard performance basket (cure, death, defaulter and non-recovery rates), which should sum to 100%; the Sphere reference for cure is >75%. Exclude transfers to other treatment programmes from both numerator and denominator rather than counting them as exits.
